We are looking for an In-Custody Barista Trainer!
We are looking for an enthusiastic new In-Custody Barista Trainer to deliver our SCA aligned specialty coffee barista training in HMP Pentonville, with the ultimate goal of preparing our learners for employment within the coffee industry. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience as a barista trainer, experience working with vulnerable groups of people, strong communication skills, and an interest in social justice.
What you’ll be doing:
Developing and delivering the 3-week Redemption Roasters in-custody Barista Course. Covering specialty coffee, dialing in, espresso shots, latte art and workflow.
Supporting learner development of soft skills including communication, time management, customer service, teamwork and hospitality
Working with vulnerable people and overseeing their personal development, ensuring Redemption Roasters classroom environments are informative, stimulating, enjoyable and encouraging places that promote personal and professional development
Working closely with our Lead Caseworker, Community Trainer and wider Impact Team to provide mentoring and professional support for graduates upon release.
Working primarily within a prison environment, forging strong professional relationships with HMP Personnel and other social impact led organisations, ensuring the best experience for in-custody learners - ultimately aimed at continuing to support participants into work with Redemption Roasters on their release from prison
Supporting Head of Impact by providing insight and data related to in-custody training
Conducting Learner assessments and providing additional support such as references for learners; where required
Adhering to all HMPPS safety policies and LSS procedures
What you’ll need to show:
Empathy, patience and willingness to support vulnerable people within a prison environment.
A resilience for dealing with challenging situations and environments.
A willingness to learn about the justice system and the structure and environment of the prison system.
Strong understanding of boundaries and how to maintain them.
Non judgmental approach to participants.
Proactiveness to identify and act on opportunities to make improvements.
Experience or ability to conduct group activities and training
Experience in coffee shop workings and barista fundamentals
Ability to communicate learning material in clear and easy-to-understand way
Ability to individualize learning; where possible; to the learner’s needs
Employment dependent on successful vetting and DBS check
