Redemption Roasters is a speciality coffee company with a difference. We are the world’s first prison-based coffee Company. At our roastery in HMP The Mount, and at nine behind-bars coffee academies, we train offenders in speciality coffee skills with the aim of reducing reoffending in the UK. We roast for over 150 wholesale clients and operate seven coffee shops in Central London.

We are looking for an experienced speciality coffee professional to join our team as Retail Operations Manager, reporting directly to the Head of Retail.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • An extremely strong background in speciality coffee and teaching those skills to others

  • An ability to get things done

  • A developed understanding of food service

  • An eye for detail and rigorous standards

  • An ability to recruit top specialty coffee talent

  • Strong people skills and the ability to forge successful relationships with team members at all levels, including ex-offenders

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Enthusiasm to further the company’s social impact outcomes

Key responsibilities:

  • Ownership of overall coffee standard and barista routines across retail locations

  • Ensuring our products are merchandised in line with Brand Guidelines

  • Maintaining excellent, consistent, customer service standards

  • Assuring consistency of food and beverage standards and product presentation

  • Brand Standards disciplinarian

  • Driving sales and coaching teams on how to build their average spend

  • Ensuring staff levels are appropriate

  • Controlling GP and monitoring margin performance

  • Being the first point of call for assisting Shop Managers in troubleshooting rota issues

  • Owning the on-boarding process for new retail starters such as Baristas and Supervisors

  • Carrying out refresher training where required or delegated by Head of Retail

  • Visiting every site, every week, and providing a written Site Visit Report Form

  • Carrying out a comprehensive Compliance audit at each site every 6 months

  • Ensuring new starters are provided with eLearning courses as part of their induction
