The role

As a trainee production coffee roaster, you will work alongside our Head Roaster, roasting a range of mainstay, feature and special edition coffees. We will provide full training so no previous experience of roasting is required, although we are looking for some with a strong background in speciality coffee. The production role is a fast paced and physical role that requires the ability to work well within a small team. A love of coffee and desire to learn, train and develop, especially your sensory skills, is essential. Origin’s flagship roastery is the lens into our brand, a visual taste of what’s at the core of our business and what drives us to keep pursuing our obsession. Key areas of responsibility

• Daily roasting mainstay, feature and special editions coffees for espresso and filter

• Roasting on Loring SmartRoast, S15, S35 and S70

• Daily grinding and packing of roasted coffee into 1KG and 250g bags using semi-automated packing machine.

• Responsibility for housekeeping, sweeping, cleanliness of roastery

• Participating in daily/weekly ‘cuppings’ working with Production/QC Manager and Head of Coffee to quality control coffee

• Development of palette and coffee knowledge through sensory training and cupping activity

• Liaising with warehouse and logistics team to ensure orders picked and processed correctly for next day delivery, stock management to ensure coffees are rested and dispatched based on correct roast dates – attention to detail required.

• Deliver to the weekly and daily roasting schedule

You will be

• friendly, modestly confident, and personable, good humoured and trustworthy

• careful and diligent – even meticulous – with a good dose of common sense

• efficient, effective, and organised, and hard working

• a team player; whilst the role is predominantly self-led, a collaborative attitude is a must

• passionate about the world of speciality coffee or about to, potentially a trained barista looking for their next move from behind the bar
