We are looking for a Retail Head Barista to join our growing team.
We are looking for an enthusiastic coffee professional to join our team as Head Barista to work across our Retail department. This is a multi-site role and involves working across all of our cafes as well as other departments to be an ambassador for Redemption Roasters’ coffee culture. The Retail Head Barista will lead and inspire all of our retail coffee teams to embody our mission, values and behaviours. This role will form the main bridge between our coffee roastery and our cafe teams.
This is a really exciting time to be joining the Redemption team. We have big growth plans and are looking for the right people to help us get there. This role will assist the Head of Retail to deliver Redemption Roasters’ company mission with a focus towards exceptional coffee.
You are: - An experienced coffee professional with exceptional barista skills and an advanced understanding of brewing across a variety of different brewing methods;
You have at least 2 years in sensorial analysis including cupping and recipe setting; SCA sensory intermediate is preferred but not essential;
Well organised and into the detail. You can manage multiple projects at one time and have the ability to plan your day so that nothing gets missed;
A people person; you build relationships easily and work well with all different kinds of people;
Proactive in foreseeing and preventing issues that affect customer experience before they arise;
A leader who acts with integrity;
Adaptable and flexible in approach towards the needs of those you are working with, be it trainees, experienced team members, managers or owners;
An excellent communicator including written, verbal, presentation skills and body language;
Somebody with a good level of commercial awareness in respect of our Retail business, including product sales mix, coffee profit margins and labour / efficiency;
Somebody with a casually professional approach - you like to have fun as well as being totally dedicated to quality;
Able to train, encourage and challenge the team towards high performance;
Able to effectively resolve competency or performance related issues where necessary;
Experienced in working on cross-functional projects;
A creative thinker who comes up with solutions, not problems. As a small business we don’t sit around waiting for things to happen - we make them happen;
Responsibilities include: - To be an ambassador for Redemption Roasters coffee culture, values and behaviours and inspire the retail team to be the same.
To provide sensory and barista training to the Retail team through initial and ongoing training programs.
To work with the Education department to develop a world-class barista and coffee training program.
To work with the Head Roaster to create and roll out espresso and filter recipes for use in our cafes.
To provide critical feedback to cafe managers and staff on brewed coffee quality and consistency, and retrain where necessary.
To establish and maintain Redemption brewed coffee standards across the business.
To liaise between the Roastery and Retail departments, communicating about our coffee sourcing programme, new coffee launches and all things coffee related.
To cup the production & sample roasts with the Head Roaster at the Roastery.
To host and/or facilitate regular cuppings with the Retail team and Head Roaster.
To assist in the recruitment, trial shift and induction of new baristas.
To manage the maintenance schedules of all cafe equipment, including testing of water quality and timely replacement of filters, testing of grind consistency and tracking & replacement of grinder burrs.
To assist in the coffee workflow design of planned new site openings.
To support the launch of new site openings and product launches.
To discuss and plan for new product launches in good time with planned training for the Retail team.
To ensure compliance with hygiene and health and safety standards.
-To work shifts in the retail team to support where needed.
