Do you want to use your Barista skills for good?

We are looking for Barista Supervisors to join our team at Leaps & Grounds, the newest social enterprise from the British Red Cross. Our mission is to help craft the careers of women who have experienced forced displacement. With the support of Caravan Coffee Roastery, we train female refugees to become baristas. Our trainee baristas work at our coffee pods, selling great coffee to the public, and we are looking for barista supervisors to work alongside our new trainees.

Why have we set up Leaps & Grounds?

Employment is critical for refugees when rebuilding their lives in their new home. Entering work is beneficial for independence, wellbeing, and integration. Yet refugees in the UK face massive barriers to entering work, as seen in the shockingly high unemployment rates of refugees. This number is even higher for refugee women.
We launched Leaps & Grounds to empower our trainees in overcoming these barriers. We do this through a blend of paid employment, training, and 1-2-1 mentoring.

This role is for a barista supervisor, who will run shifts at our small coffee hubs in Moorgate and Brixton.

• Clear communication and a supportive and kind approach – many of our trainee baristas don’t speak English as their first language and have not worked in the UK or in coffee before.

• Updating Leaps & Grounds Operations Manager on baristas progress in training.

Commercial responsibilities during shifts you are supervising:

• We are a new and developing social enterprise, and will spend 2023 testing new ways to grow our business.

• In this role you will help trial exciting new products and marketing strategies, as planned by the Leaps & Grounds team.

• You will feedback your observations on the success of these new products and strategies.

What do we offer?

• You will work 28+ hours work each week (across 4+ days). We will take your preferences into account in the rota.

• You will work across both our sites. This means you’ll get to work alongside our full team and interact with a range of customers.

• You’ll have a chance to help build a new social enterprise from the ground up and develop lead barista skills.

• Specialised training with our specialty coffee partner may be possible on request.
