THIS MUST BE THE PLACE

We now have a vacancy for a friendly and experienced barista at our busy independent coffee shop in Shenfield, Essex.

Just 15 minutes from Stratford and 24 minutes from Liverpool Street on the fast train, we are also conveniently placed at the eastbound end of the Elizabeth Line, with good links to Romford and Ilford. The shop is a 5 minute walk from Shenfield train station.

Foureighty is more than a coffee shop: having opened in April 2021 as the only speciality shop in our corner of South West Essex, we quickly built a reputation with our delicious, made to recipe coffee and unique maximalist decor. We love our regulars and our regulars love us - we’ve got to know our returning customers well over the years and the ‘community hub’ aspect of the shop is something we’re really proud of. Whether it’s a takeaway flat white for a city worker rushing for the train or an oat latte for a mum to enjoy in the shop with her baby, we ensure every drink is made with precision and love because that’s what we’re all about!

In the beginning we spent considerable time sourcing the very best coffee beans and are now proud partners of Fiveways Coffee in Amsterdam. Our signature ‘DOMINO’ roast is a winner with staff and customers alike – we also sell a variety of different roasts for all tastes. Fiveways’ passion to deliver the very best coffee matches our drive to deliver exemplary customer service; a killer combination that’s enabled us to establish ourselves as THE PLACE to eat, drink and socialise.

Imported coffee aside, we really are all about supporting and partnering with the very best local businesses to bring something very special to the table. Our summer plans include a craft beer festival weekend, barbecues, wood fired pizza and Indian street food to name a few.

We have big plans for the shop and it really is an incredibly exciting time to join us. In March we announced our expansion into the unit next door which will double our capacity - we need an experienced barista to help us grow our business further while keeping the same high level of service our customers know and love.

Our current set up includes a La Marzocco Linea machine and Victoria Arduino Mythos One grinder.

What’s on offer?
- Full time hours (40-50 per week depending on your preference)
- £12.50 p/h starting wage, reviewed after 3 month probation period
- Opportunity to progress to Head Barista role if desired
- Mixture of weekday & weekend shifts (we don’t expect anyone to give up all weekend, every weekend!)
- Share of generous tips, paid in cash at the end of the month
- Working with a lovely bunch of professionals (if we do say so ourselves!)
- 50% staff discount on food & drink
- Free staff coffee (on or off shift)
- Paid breaks
- Free staff parking
- The opportunity to be as involved in the running of our independent business as you like - we really are open to all our staff’s ideas and opinions. If you enjoy having a stake in your workplace and really SEEING the difference you’re making, this could be the role for you!

The right person for us:
- Has proven experience with speciality coffee made to recipe
- Is used to working in high-pressure, high volume environments (we often have a queue out the door on busy mornings!)
- Has a great attitude - we are a small team spending long hours with each other and would like you to approach things with the same positive attitude we try to have! We don’t want our staff to dread coming to work every day because that’s no fun for anyone
- Isn’t afraid to give their opinions or ideas - we are open to anything that could make our business better so please do tell us!
- Experience using La Marzocco/Victoria Arduino equipment would be advantageous but isn’t essential

Please apply with a CV, and a short cover letter detailing any relevant experience you have :)
