Kiss the Hippo is a new ambitious specialty coffee company. Starting last year in Richmond, where we opened the doors to our café, training centre, roastery and HQ, we quickly made our mark on UK coffee scene through being the home to the UK Barista Champion and the silver medalist. We focus on sustainably sourced specialty coffee through small micro-lots and from unique farms. Alongside our coffee offering is wholesome healthy food. As we grow, we are looking for a Shop Manager who has a manager experience for at least 2 years for our next project, a new café on Margaret St. near Oxford Circus.

The core ethos of who we are is a drive to make specialty coffee more sustainable, more accessible and to higher standard than anyone before. As a Shop Manager, you would embody these values upholding them and inspiring the staff to follow suit. We believe what makes a great manager is someone who is inspiring to staff, compassionate, driven and with high uncompromisable standards.

The person we want to work with will be looking to upkeep and refine each of these details. • Bring the best out of the team you manage by creating an environment for them that will foster positive relationships, collaboration and happiness both in front and behind the counter. • Be a force for calm, efficient and high-quality work during busy periods and a force for keep initiative alive and seeking how to improve the shop in quieter periods.

Critical Skills & Competencies • Ability to motivate and inspire • Clear and considerate communication skills • Excellent understanding of the needs of high-quality hospitality businesses • High level understanding of speciality coffee • High level attention to detail • Being comfortable with MS Office programmes • Past experience in Fourth Hospitality software (preferred)

The Key Responsibilities • The daily smooth running of the shop by directing and collaborating with staff to get the best out of them so they can give the best to the customers. • Ensure the standards of coffee and all other product preparation are done to the highest level. • Working to constantly ensure the financial sustainability of the shop through minimizing waste, considerate management of staff hours and maximizing sales where appropriate. • Seek out new opportunities to increase the cafes profitability. • Monitor all cash handling for accuracy. • Ensure stocking best practices across all goods. • Ensures the adherence to all labour and health and safety standards. • Work collaboratively with the coffee roasting team to deliver a dynamic coffee offering to an exceptional standard. • Work as a key point in the cycle of developing and implementing company café strategy by being a part of conceiving, delivering and feeding back. • Keep staff constantly informed about upcoming changes and product launches to ensure professional rollouts. • Ensuring the cleanliness and polish of the café is always upheld. • Balance the needs of your team in a compassionate way that ensures the smooth running of the café. • Show an expert understanding of the cafes offering and of the business so you can be a point of answers for any questions. • Ensure the training of all staff to a high level and act proactively by enriching the team’s skill and knowledge base wherever needed. • Be a critical juncture communicating to management the needs of the café and executing on strategies for improvement.
