The Role and Job Description

  • Contract: Full-time — Haslemere, Surrey
  • Hours / Shift Pattern: 35 hours per week Monday - Friday 0900 - 1700 Flexible
  • Salary: Competitive

The Production Roaster will be responsible for delivering the best of the best when it comes to roasting coffee. With a constant rotation of 16+ single estate, direct traded coffees, changing regularly - each coffee we produce is individually roast-profiled with the utmost care and attention to bring out the very best flavours and every batch is quality controlled to ensure that every bag delivers delight to the Pact coffee community.

You’ll be expected to understand and have a good level of experience in the roasting process with skill progression delivered by the Head Roaster. The candidate will be expected to meet extremely high levels of quality control set by the Head Roaster and supervised by our Head of Coffee. The role will involve a high level of training in roasting both using the automated burner control as well as manual roasting to follow a roast curve, roaster maintenance and cleaning. Our Roastery is in Haslemere, Surrey so having your own means of transport is preferred for this role.

As Production Roaster your main responsibilities will include…

  • Completing daily roasting according to requirements
  • Considering each batch of coffee with incredible attention to detail to deliver the best expression of each coffee and hitting the roast profile target - as required by our Head Roaster
  • Specialisation in measurement of quality metrics within our lab
  • Measuring accurate coffee stock take at the end of each day
  • Taking care of the roaster’s maintenance as defined by the Head Roaster
  • Regular cupping of production coffee and sample roasts
  • Constant knowledge development including attending external events and engaging with the Coffee production community
  • Cupping samples from across the direct trade supply chain with our Head of Coffee

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone with solid roastery experience, a huge passion for coffee and an equally keen eye for detail to join the Pact Coffee Team, roasting on a Loring Peregrine (70kg batch) roaster, to deliver coffee to our extremely high quality standards, delighting thousands of customers every week!

  • A genuine passion for speciality coffee
  • Previous proven experience in coffee roasting and production
  • Experience working in an environment with industrial machinery
  • Organised and detail oriented
  • Flexible and adaptable to a busy, reactive work environment
  • Ability and willingness to meet the physical requirements of the working conditions eg. heavy lifting, dragging of green and roasted coffee and long periods of standing
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (word, excel)
  • Flexibility to work on weekends
  • Own transport preferred due to the location of this role
