SEND, standing for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, is a coffee company delivering real impact through our charity & social enterprise model. We work with young people aged 18-25 with special needs and disabilities, training them up to be baristas in a competitive market.
We provide them with 36 weeks of training across our sites in Camden, Covent Garden, Canning Town, ExCel London, East Ham, and Forest Gate, with several more shops in the pipeline for 2020.
As a complete nonprofit we have a commitment to both quality and mission unlike most other coffee companies, and we’re looking for people who believe in that uncompromising approach to social enterprise. That extends to our coffee quality too, and we believe in overcompensating on the quality of our beans to overcome any prejudices our beneficiaries might experience.
We launched properly in January 2020, after a year testing our impact model to make sure it was right.
We are looking for a Mentor Barista for the following sites:
Being a Mentor Barista, you’ll be paired with one of our learners with a special need or disability, ranging from mild to serious, but always having passed a fit for work assessment.
You’ll guide and support this learner over 36 weeks into a permanent role with one of our wonderful partners, whilst you work together in one of our coffee shops.
