Job Summary:

The overall objective of this position is to shape and design an alternative model for achieving sustainable development outcomes that utilizes an inclusive and profitable business focused on delivering coffee farmers a Living Income to maximize impact at the household. This will be accomplished by building a coffee marketing and sales business housed within Corus International that improves the quality of engagement between coffee consumers and growers in a way that provides the consumers with high quality, high impact product and the farmers with a greater share of the retail value of coffee to help them generate a living income.

The incumbent will develop a sound business plan, demonstrate commercial viability and growth potential of the enhanced approach, and make a pitch to Corus’s in-house impact investing arm, Ground Up Investing, for the growth capital required to scale the enterprise. This work will necessarily involve increasing the volume of coffee sold under the Farmers Market label and working with LWR supported producers, including cooperatives and Mountain Harvest and Nevcaos Beans.




Evaluates the existing Farmers Market marketing and sales arrangements and conducts a landscape analysis of current market opportunities including an analysis of potential sales channels and strategic partnership models to inform business plan development and future marketing initiatives. Develops a business plan to scale up LWR Farmers Market Coffee as a sustainable, profitable business that increases sales of Corus affiliated coffee producers and partnering enterprises and demonstrates expanded social impact (development outcomes) for much larger groups of producers. Implements the business plan. This will include ensuring ethical and impact-driven sourcing. roasting and fulfillment initially outsourced in the US and ideally, in the case of Colombia, at the origin. testing new marketing and sales approaches, building e-commerce and other sales channels, (I.e. direct-to-consumer eCommerce, grocery, and cafes). New channels should allow for the potential to incorporate in the future other smallholder-based food products driving increased sales and managing margins and costs to ensure profitability managing financial resources, including sourcing growth capital as needed and managing supplier payments ensuring timely and accurate reporting (financial and operational) Prepare and present an investment pitch to Ground Up Investing to finance the growth of Farmers Market as a stand-alone enterprise within the Corus family.
Collaborates within Corus/LWR Quality Impact & Learning teams to integrate “living income” strategies and measurements into the business to ensure maximum impact at the farm household level and, as well as with Senior Regional Directors to develop a strategy and process for integrating LWR development programs and other NGOs working in the coffee sector into the approach.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Experience in starting successful businesses. Experience in the consumer goods marketing and sales sector. Strong financial literacy, with the ability to understand and prepare financial statements (Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, etc.) Strong project development and management skills and experience Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively verbally and in writing with all stakeholders within and outside of the Corus family Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, etc. Familiarity with the coffee supply chain helpful, but not mandatory Self-starter with the ability to work remotely under limited oversight given Corus’ current telework environment in response to COVID-19

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree plus 8-10 years of related experience, or equivalent combination

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
