General Manager / Head barista – Café Babka, Great Russell Street, Bloomsbury London

We’re looking for an experienced general manager to head up our beautiful café in Bloomsbury. The look and feel of the café is reminiscent of the 1920s café culture of Vienna and Berlin with a twist of mid-century Italian decoration. We serve premium single estate coffee and excellent teas as well as the incredible babka cake from which the café takes its name, all in a beautiful townhouse with jaw dropping views of the British Museum. The café has a very relaxed and welcoming vibe and we want to continue to grow our reputation for excellent customer service and amazing coffee. We operate a La Marzocco FB80 with Mythos and EK grinders as well as a Marco brewer for our drip coffee. We are looking for someone with a minimum of 2-years experience in the speciality coffee business who can bring their talent and enthusiasm to this amazing space.

Requirements • Meticulous attention to detail with a passion for coffee and with impeccable taste. We want to maintain our existing coffee offering as well as develop guest blends and interesting recipes to complement our food offering. • Ensuring quality and consistency of the food menu with an interest in developing seasonal items and catering for those with vegan, vegetarian and food intolerance / allergies • Ensuring that the customer experience is always top notch – the kind of place you would be excited to visit • Managing till reconciliation, cashing-up and the float and banking cash. • Developing opening and closing protocols and ensuring that these are followed consistently • Maintaining relationships with existing suppliers and developing / sourcing new suppliers. Ensuring adequate stock levels. • Maintaining Health and Safety compliance, and Food Hygiene [to Level 3] with training provided and implementation and control of SFBB [Safe Food Better Business]. Organising and maintaining deep clean rotation.
