COMMON is a new sustainability focused lifestyle shop and café opened in the heart of Clapham Common in February 2019. We have been ambitious in creating a unique shopping environment where absolutely everything is plastic-free as well as creating an organic café without an once of palm oil. We are looking for an enthusiastic, honest, self-motivated head barista who is passionate about protecting our environment as they are about good coffee. Applicants will have to bring buckets of energy to this unique role, which will see you playing a crucial role as the company develops quickly over the coming months.

The key things are we are looking for in an outstanding Head Barista: • One year plus experience of working in a fast-paced café or bar • Positive, outgoing, confident and authentic persona • Exceptional interpersonal skills • The highest level of customer service skills that go above and beyond expectation • Experience of driving a highly efficient and well-organised ship • Experience of increasing sales and profits through financial management, leadership and implementing best practice • Experience of leading a motivated and high performing team in hospitality environment • Understanding and compassion for environmental and sustainability issues • Eye for cleanliness, presentation, detail and always seeking improvement • Legal right to work in the UK

Key areas of responsibility:

• Ensure the quality and appearance of all beverages served to our customers • Make sure the front of house café and shop is kept to the highest standard of cleanliness and organisation • Support part-time staff with barista training as well as offering tips and advice on how to improve their barista skills and over the highest level of customer service • Work alongside the management team to ensure that all shifts front of house are filled • Be a point of contact for staff who are unwell or unable to work • Motivate the front of house team to ensure high levels of job satisfaction • Keep up to date with coffee and tea trends, making suggestions for new drinks to test and develop • Ensure the highest level of food safety hygiene is adhered to • Oversee all food on display to ensure no sandwiches or salads are left out for longer than 4 hours • Ensure tables are cleared and cleaned as quickly and efficiently as possible • Oversee the reordering of coffee, tea, coffee cups and report low stock on items in the shop • Administrator for amendments to the till • Oversee the opening or closing of the shop following the open/close procedures.

  • 40 hours Thursday to Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday off
