Since 1698, when the London coffee house cemented itself as the quintessential melting pot of political, philosophical and creative debate, independent businesses have competed to serve the best cup of ‘syrup of soot and essence of old shoes’.
When we established the Gentlemen Baristas in 2014, we were determined to reinvent these age-old traditions of serving a superb cup of coffee in creative and inspiring surroundings and providing a meeting point and thinking space for London’s modern day visionaries.
Of course, ‘soot and old shoes’ will no longer satisfy the discerning palate of the 21st century coffee connoisseur; our first and primary aim has always been to showcase at its best the great wealth and variety of coffee available today.
We have a tagline. Manners are key - they’re important, they’re neglected and people do care about them. They go to the core of our identity; we are upright and correct, and strive to evoke the best of a period gone by.
We’d like to meet a well-mannered barista. We are kindly requesting that friendly and sociable baristas who are passionate about people, coffee, and good old-fashioned chat contact us immediately.
Experience in quality coffee is a big plus, but not essential as training and development will be provided but the ideal candidate will be able to juggle multiple responsibilities and be a team player (an actual one, everyone says they’re a team player), and generally be a good egg.
Why would anyone want to work with us?
We’ve been serving coffee since 2014 when we opened our first coffee house on Union Street. Since then we’ve been pluckily trying to reinvent the age-old tradition of serving superb coffee in creative spaces and building a strong connection to our neighbours and community.
What does well-mannered mean?
Being well-mannered means remembering names, being friendly to our customers, respectful to our suppliers, and generous to our neighbours. It means being upstanding, behind the counter and in the community. It means always thinking about others.
