Barista at Social Enterprise empowering refugee women!

Do you want to use your Barista skills for good? The British Red Cross are recruiting part time baristas (flexible hours) to run a social enterprise coffee business in Central London.

Supported by the British Red Cross, Leaps & Grounds is a social enterprise with a mission to sell excellent, ethical coffee while supporting refugee women into work. Currently, we are open Monday to Friday and looking for a talented baristas to help build up this new specialty coffee venture.

Refugees are underrepresented in the UK workforce and female refugees have even worse employment outcomes than their male counterparts. We are on a mission to change that, and support refugee women to build up their confidence, experience, and connections through coffee.

How does Leaps & Grounds work?

Refugee women and expert barista volunteers work alongside one another to serve excellent, delicious specialty coffee to the public.Through this work experience, the women build their skills, confidence and social connections so they can use the experience to move into longer term employment. After a successful pilot, Leaps & Grounds is in development within our innovation team. We have two members of staff running the programme, and looking for skilled baristas to man the operation on the ground.

Who are we looking for?

We are recruiting for skilled baristas, comfortable running a coffee cart. We’re working with partners in the specialty coffee industry and machinery giants and have created a high spec set up. We need someone who can confidently deliver excellent specialty coffee, and coach other baristas to improve their skills. Most importantly, we’re looking for a warm and energetic person who can deliver great customer service and create an enjoyable environment on the cart. Engaging with customers, volunteers and programme participants with kindness and empathy is key.

Skills needed:

Opening & closing a premises Dialling in, checking for quality and improving team practices Excellent barista skills Warm outlook and great customer service skills Ability to manage stock and orders Comfortable running rotas and leading a team Food hygiene certificate Level 2 (desirable but not essential)
