H’ARTISAN is a brand new independent speciality coffee shop in the village of Wargrave Berkshire (nr Henley On Thames). We are going to be a vibrant community hub, a place for social gatherings, remote work, meetings, and a welcome pitstop for the many cyclists on long rides in the area. We are working with some fantastic companies to ensure our products are the best. We have specialty coffee, tea and chocolate on the menu, from some of the best small businesses in the South West and London. We are launching with Colonna coffee which will be prepared on the new Eagle One from Victoria Arduino. We are looking for experienced full and part-time baristas to join us. The hourly rate is based on experience and is in the range of £9-10 per hour.

Your day to day will include: Quality: maintaining brand standards at high volume production by following and adapting recipes to ensure consistency. Promoting our products – retail items, drinks and food. Maintenance: Follow cleaning routines to maintain the coffee machines, grinders, vac pots, milk pitcher rinsers, clean steam wands and grinders. Compliance: Keeping the whole shop clean, including tables, toilet and pot wash, and always follow H&S, HACCP, Food Safety standards. Shop operations: Complete opens and closes, including end of day POS reconciliation. Stock Control: Receive deliveries following procedures to verify they are complete and in good condition. I support in ordering to avoid shortages or surplus.

We are looking for a barista with these skills:

Technical Skills/knowledge- I can explain the coffee, tea and chocolate origins and how they taste in all the drinks on our menu. ESPRESSO: I can keep within +/- 0.5g for the dose, +/- 3 seconds for the brew time and +/- 3g for the espresso yield. FILTER: Develop recipes for filters and perfect existing recipes by adjusting according to identified issues (using extraction theory relating to brewing and recognizing impacts of adjustments on Ext % and TDS). I provide advice on other soft-brew methods to customers interested in retail equipment. MILK: Understand basic milk chemistry and consistently steam, split and pour within varied volumes, to a minimum of 55C (HH) 60C (TA). I manage the milk station during busy periods, produce high quality latte art on every drink that displays contrast, symmetry and is visually appealing.

Customer experience: I will work closely with the team to make the café a lively centre for the community to gather. Together we will develop local relationships, ensure our products and standards exceed their expectations in terms of both quality and service. I delight with my knowledge of our products, my focus on quality, my efficient speed of service, and eye for cleanliness – all the while, being welcoming and creating a unique, characterful atmosphere. I will do this with my technical skills – ensuring fast and high quality service, with my technical knowledge – keeping the machine clean and maintained, and my product knowledge – matching the right products to the customers. I adhere to prescribed service standards, such as wait times and ensuring the café environment looks, sounds and generally feels good.
